Client Challenge

A digital‐first insurer wanted to leverage Generative AI to reduce customer support load, drive sales and improve understanding of complex insurance policies. They had no AI team and wanted to partner with Melio AI to drive their AI-enabled business outcomes in a cost-effective engagement model.

Phase 1: Advisory Retainer

We kicked off on a 40 hrs/month Advisory engagement, partnering with the executive team to:

• Align AI initiatives with strategic business drivers
• Map and prioritize AI projects using a Business Value vs. Complexity 2×2 matrix
• Develop an AI strategic roadmap combining prioritized AI initiatives with the necessary capabilities and skills required to implement
• Prioritise the build of a customer-facing AI agent powered by Amazon Bedrock to streamline customer support

Phase 2: Manage AI Retainer

Once the roadmap was set, we seamlessly transitioned into an 80 hrs/month Manage AI model to:

• Architect and develop the Bedrock-based chatbot (known internally as “Evi”)
• Build auto-ingestion pipelines for policy documents (UI + API)
• Embed MLOps & DevSecOps best practices in CI/CD, observability (CloudWatch, Langfuse) and serverless deployment
• Transfer AWS and AI knowledge and mentor the client’s development team to own and extend Evi
• Regular check-ins and transparency of progress to the client's executive team
